La Casona Rios Fortuna Lodge – East of La Fortuna

Green pastures, gardens, fruit trees along the Río Fortuna, these are the surroundings of La Casona Río Fortuna, which used to be a meeting place for travelers a long time ago.

How to get there: San José – Ciudad Quesada – El Tanque. Three kilometers before the town of La Fortuna, turn left on a gravel road at La Casona Río Fortuna sign, follow this road until you see another sign, then go to the right 500 m until you reach the lodge.

Juanilama Reserve and Community Experience – Near Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

Toucans, parrots, monkeys and frogs can be found in the Juanilama Reserve as well as a lovely waterfall pool. Juanilama is a great place to experience life in a campesino community. You can go fishing, horseback riding or learn how to make cheese; especially recommended for families.

How to get there: On the road to Los Chiles, look for Santa Rosa de Pocosol. Continue on Los Chiles road 6 km after Santa Rosa; turn left at Asentamiento Tres y Tres. Turn right at Juanilama sign and continue 3km to the village.
